RALLY CLIPR RATING 🌶️
One rating for every Rally Clipr event. How it moves, and what's new.
100–10009 spice levelsUses the scoreNever drops for being away
What it is
The Rally Clipr Rating (RCR) is our own rating for doubles. It's included in all RC Events, including King of the Court, the Ladder League and Open Play+, and will be rolled out to more events in the near future. It's one number everywhere, so a game at one event counts at all the others.
It is not DUPR and never changes your DUPR.

Phet means spicy in Thai. The better you play, the spicier you get. The DUPR numbers are only a rough guide to the level.
Every game, step by step
1
We predict the score
Before each game we compare both teams, using all four players' ratings. Each team's strength is the average of its two players.
2
Beat it and you go up
Do better than predicted and you rise. Fall short and you drop. The bigger the surprise, the bigger the move.
3
The score matters
11-2 counts for more than 11-9. A close loss to a stronger team can still move you up.
4
Partners move separately
You and your partner get the same result, but a newer player moves more than a regular. The prediction already allows for a weaker or stronger partner.
Example
Your team is a little stronger, so we expect about 11-7.
Win 11-3▲ upbetter than expected
Win 11-9▼ small dropcloser than expected
Lose 9-11▲ can risevs a stronger team
Where you start
With a DUPR
The desk enters your DUPR once. It's turned into your starting RCR, then only your games move it.
| DUPR | Starting RCR |
| 2.5 | 300 |
| 3.0 | 500 |
| 3.5 | 600 |
| 3.72 | 644 |
| 4.0 | 700 |
| 4.5 | 800 |
| 5.0 | 900 |
No DUPR: 5 placement games
- The host picks a starting level so you land on a fair court.
- Your first 5 rated games set your rating directly from how you actually played, so it can jump a lot.
- Each placement game moves it at most 100 points, and placement never finishes above 700. After that, normal games take you higher.
- You show as NEW until your first rated game.
Friendlier rules
- Keep-playing bonus: +1 for each rated game, up to +3 a night and +25 in total. It never fades.
- Soft bad nights: once you're settled, the most you can lose in one night is 20 points. Gains have no cap.
- Tier shield: moved up a spice level? You can't drop out of it for your next 5 rated games (for settled players).
- Never drops for being away. Your first games back just move a bit more.
Settled? Reliability, in short
Behind the scenes everyone also has a hidden reliability number. New players move fast so they find their level quickly; regulars move slowly. Most people are settled after 3–4 nights. Beating predictions again and again keeps you moving fast.
What counts
- Every finished, scored game at a rated RC Event, including bonus games.
- Ties, 0-0 games and just-for-fun games don't count.
- Test nights don't count.
- A score that gets corrected later re-counts the whole night, so the rating always matches the real scores.
What's new
30 OCT 20269 spice levels
A new top level for DUPR 5.0+ players: Phet Ra-Berd (explosively spicy) is now 900+. Phet Tua Tueng is the 800s, and the new Phet Ron (red-hot spicy) is the 700s. Your number didn't change, only the level names above 700.
30 OCT 2026More events on the way
The rating is part of every RC Event, including King of the Court, the Ladder League and Open Play+. It will roll out to more events in the near future.
27 OCT 2026Ladder games count
Ladder night games now count toward the rating, updated after every score.
27 OCT 2026Calmer and fairer (version 4)
- The tier shield is only for settled players, so brand-new players can drop back if they need to.
- Players who start from a DUPR swing less on their first night.
- 900+ is meant to be hard: gains count half from 800 and a quarter from 900. Losses are unchanged.
We checked this against the first 5 real nights: ratings stayed in line with DUPR on average, with far fewer huge jumps.
12 OCT 2026Placement guards
Placement games move at most 100 each and never finish above 700, so one lucky night can't put a new player at the top.
12 OCT 2026Launch
Rally Clipr Rating starts: 8 spice levels, score-based, keep-playing bonus, soft bad nights and the tier shield.
Questions & answers
I won but went down. Why?You were expected to win by more. Winning 11-9 when we predicted 11-5 is a small drop.
I lost but went up. Why?You did better than expected, like a close 9-11 loss to a stronger team.
My partner moved more than me. Why?Newer players move faster. Regulars have played more games, so their rating is more stable and moves less.
Does my partner affect my rating?Yes. We look at your team as a pair, so with a weaker partner you're expected to score less, and with a stronger one more.
When does it update?Right after the host enters each score.
I had a terrible night. How much can I lose?Once you're settled, at most 20 points in one night. New players have no limit, so they reach their level quickly.
I just reached a new level. Can I drop straight back? No. You keep your new level for your next 5 rated games (once you're settled).
Is there a bonus for playing a lot?Yes. +1 for each rated game, up to +3 a night, and up to +25 in total.
I haven't played in a while. Did I go down? No. Your rating never drops for being away. It just moves a bit faster when you come back.
The timer ended our game at 7-5. Does it count?Yes. We use the score you reached. Games with fewer than 18 total points count a little less.
Does beating a much weaker team help? Not much. If you're expected to win almost every point, you can't go up.
I'm new and have no DUPR. Where do I start? The host picks a starting level. Your first 5 rated games then set your rating from how you actually played.
Where can I see mine?On the event's phone page (scan the QR on the TV): find your name, or tap “This is me”.
Does it change my DUPR?No. It's Rally Clipr's own rating and never touches your DUPR.
The score was entered wrong. What now?Tell the host. They fix it and your rating is recalculated.
I got hurt and had to stop. Does that game count? The host can mark it as not counting, so it won't affect your rating.
Why chili peppers?Phet means spicy in Thai. The better you play, the spicier you get. 🌶️
